Fox Island Man Charged With Vehicular Assault in Alleged Hit-and-Run

Gregory McCormak Andrews of Fox Island is accused of hitting a local woman who was riding her bicycle on July 12.

UPDATE: 2:35 p.m. on Aug. 8, 2012

According to the Pierce County Superior Court, Andrews' arraignment has been moved to Wednesday, Aug. 8.

The driver involved in the hit-and-run accident last month has been charged with vehicular assault and failure to remain at injury accident, according to the Pierce County Prosecutor’s Office.

Gregory McCormak Andrews, 52, of Fox Island was charged for allegedly hitting a Fox Island woman and driving off without making sure she was ok.

The victim was riding her bicycle near 42nd Street Court NW and Ray Nash Drive NW in Gig Harbor on July 12.

Patch first reported last month that in the area that night around 9 p.m.

Another witness also told police that he had confronted Andrews in person before the accident. The witness said Andrews appeared to be “very intoxicated” and admitted to drinking that night. The witness said he also asked Andrews to pull over to the side of the road.

According to court documents, Amy Wickstrom, 42, sustained abrasions to her right shoulder and both arms and suffered a concussion due to the collision. 

Two weeks after the incident, Wickstrom’s husband witnessed a white SUV with a broken passenger side mirror, which officials believe was damaged when the car hit Wickstrom from the left side.

Authorities also found glass shards from the mirror inside the vehicle, all the way over to the driver’s seat.

They also took Wickstrom’s bicycle and matched it to the damaged fender and door.

Andrews is set to be arraigned on Aug. 17.

According to court documents, Andrews said he did not know that he had hit someone, but said, “If I hit her can you tell her I’m really sorry”.
