Gig Harbor Police Blotter: Jan. 5 to 9

The Gig Harbor Police Department arrested a man for shoplifting from Albertsons, and a unknown woman walked out of a salon without paying.

On Jan. 5, the responded to located on Kimball Drive after its motion alarm went off. They found fresh foot-print smears on the ladder leading to the roof in the back of the building. The owner arrived and found $60 missing from the cash register. Police found a snowboard between the ceiling tile and the roof and another on the roof. Police said the suspect had entered and escaped through the roof vent.

On Jan. 5., a white female suspect walked into . She got a haircut and got her hair colored. The suspect introduced herself to the manager with a fictions name and said she worked at St. Joseph Medical Center. At the end of her haircut, the suspect said she had to go to her car to get her other credit car since the one she had didn't have enough money. The suspect left her purse and wallet and never returned. When the manager looked inside it, there was only an apple, a plastic bag and an empty wallet. After further investigation, police discovered that hospital did not have an employee under such name. 

On Jan. 7, police received a call for burglary at the . Just after 8 a.m., an employee was working in the kitchen when he heard someone walking out the front door. When he ran to the back of the store, he met with one of the cooks who had just arrived to work. The cook said he saw a white male running from the restaurant and drove off in a silver Ford Expedition. After investigating the property, the officer found that the suspect had tried to remove the safe from the upstairs office. The suspect managed to get in the room by removing three hinges on the wooden door.  The suspect took about $1,000 from the office, but failed to get into the safe. There were no signs of forced entry.

On Jan. 7, police responded to a report of a shoplifter in custody at . The 60-year-old white male suspect was caught stealing a single can of Steel Reserve beer valued at $2.19. The officer said the suspect appeared to be intoxicated and smelled of alcohol. After arresting the suspect, the man admitted to stealing the beer. The officer later learned that the suspect had a misdemeanor arrest warrant for DUI through the . The officer said the suspect refused to acknowledge his arrest warrant and asked the officer to go home. The suspect also complained of having back and chest pains. He said he couldn't walk and was going to die if he went to jail. treated the suspect and took him to for medical evaluation. After he was cleared from the hospital, the police to the suspect to the Pierce County Jail. His bail was set at $5,100.

On Jan. 8, police responded to a security check at  on 5555 Soundview Dr. The front door was broken out. Police only found several packs of cigarettes missing from the store. Police were not able to pick up any fingerprints from the evidence.

On Jan. 9, police pulled over a 49-year-old white male driver in the 5200 block of Borgen Boulevard. The registered owner of the truck had a suspended license in the 3rd degree. When the officer approached the driver, he said he had insurance for the truck, but was unable to provide proof of insurance. The driver also said he was aware that his license was suspended. The officer issued a citation for DWLS 3rd and failing to provide proof of insurance.
