UPDATE: Investigator to Review Complaint Against Police Chief

The City of Gig Harbor announced today that an outside investigator will review allegations against Police Chief Mike Davis.

The announced today it had received a complaint regarding the actions of Chief Mike Davis.

Scott Snyder of the law firm Ogden Murphy Wallace said the complaint against the chief was filed on Jan. 20. 

Snyder, who has been working with the city for 10 years, said the firm is currently in the process of finding a third-party police agency to investigate the complaint.

The city's marketing director, Laureen Lund, released a statement:

"The City of Gig Harbor has received a complaint regarding the actions of its Police Chief. The City takes all complaints seriously and has engaged an outside investigator to review the allegations. There will be no further comment until the investigation is complete."

Before taking the position as the Gig Harbor Police Chief in June of 2004, Davis was the undersheriff, acting sheriff and chief of detectives in Kitsap County Sheriff's Department. He has worked in law enforcement for more than 25 years.

Under the Washington Public Records Act, the final report of the investigation will not be released to the public unless there is a founded report.

The City of Gig Harbor has not determined whether to place Chief Davis on administrative leave.
