Local Officer Receives Life Saving Award

Officer Chet Dennis was honored at Monday night's city council meeting.

Chief Mike Davis presented Officer Chet Dennis with a Life Saving Award at Monday night's .

On Sept. 11, Dennis was working as an off-duty officer at the when he received reports of an intoxicated, suicidal man on the Tacoma Narrows Bridge.

Dennis rushed to the scene and assisted Pierce Council Sheriff's Deputy Aaron Thompson pull the man from the outer ledge of the bridge.

"It was just another day on the job," he said. "I don't think I did anything exceptional."

Dennis earned a standing ovation as he accepted a plaque and pin from Davis. He is the department's second recipient to receive the award.
