Police Beef Up DUI Patrols Over St. Patrick’s Day Weekend

Along with law enforcement in King, Pierce and Snohomish counties, the Washington State Liquor Control Board will be visiting local bars to educate employees about the extra DUI patrols and responsible service.

Don’t press your luck as extra law enforcement will be on the roads looking for impaired drivers in King, Pierce and Snohomish counties over St. Patrick's Day weekend, March 15-17.

The Washington State Liquor Control Board also will be visiting local bars to educate employees about the extra DUI patrols and responsible service. Officers will hand out "Click 2 Ride" cards with information about taxi services that bars can share with patrons.

More than 40 percent of all traffic deaths involve an impaired driver in Washington state. Extra patrols are coordinated throughout the state by Target Zero Managers with support from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission. This work is part of an ongoing partnership with law enforcement, public health and community partners to reach the Washington State Target Zero goal of eliminating all fatal and serious injury crashes by 2030.

Participating agencies in King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties include the Auburn, Black Diamond, Bonney Lake, Enumclaw, Federal Way, Fife, Fircrest, Gig Harbor, Lakewood, Milton, Monroe, Puyallup, Steilacoom, Sumner, Tacoma and University Place Police Departments.

The Pierce County Sheriff's Department, the Washington State Liquor Control Board and the Washington State Patrol are also participating

Ugh. That's not good, Starla. How many times a week do you and husband cross, or at least try toRead More cross that crosswalk.

I have seen orange flags (like the kind you use on the boat with a water skier) used at crosswalksRead More in Redmond. Perhaps putting a PVC pipe in the ground on either side of the road or attached to the nearby sign posts with a few flags inside for you to hold out/carry to the other side when you're crossing would be helpful?

Brent, we cross it about at least once a week.
