'Rock Star' Loiland Regaining Strength

Wynn Loiland's wife, Sue, said he is regaining more agility and balance every day.

On Jan. 15, Loiland's wife, Sue, posted the following message on the CaringBridge website.

Wynn is happy to be back in therapies again. He is regaining more agility and balance. He often walks around the rehab unit before and after his physical therapy sessions. He's stronger every day.

Yesterday his speech therapist stopped us in the hallway to let me know that Wynn has been doing really well in speech. In fact, she called him a "rock star". That's my Wynn always going above expectations. Kathleen, he has progressed to a mechanical diet. Soon he'll be on to real food!

As he recovers he becomes more aware of his situation. It's very comforting for him to know that so many people care and pray for him every day. Thank you! Keep them coming. The power of prayer is working.

Wynn Loiland, a 52-year-old South King County firefighter and Gig Harbor resident, was . He suffered life-threatening head and facial injuries, a collapsed lung and broken arm, and was in a coma until just around Christmas, according to the CaringBridge site.

There will be a benefit concert on Feb. 11 to raise money for Loiland's medical expenses. .
