Target Provides Free Smoke Alarms to Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One

Due to limited resources, Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One was forced to purchase the smoke alarms that firefighters carried to install in local homes. That's when Target pitched in with free alarms.

If a good community is made up of residents who give back and support their neighbors, Gig Harbor is a great community (as if we didn’t already know that!).

For almost 20 years, firefighters of Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One have been carrying  a supply of smoke alarms on their engines in case they need to install one in a home.

However, over the past few of years the grant opportunities have become scarce, according to Prevention Specialist Nanette Tatom.

In stepped Target.

Forced to look at the option of purchasing smoke alarms for the program, Tatom approached the Gig Harbor Target store about the possibility of buying smoke alarms in bulk at a reduced rate.

But thanks to Target’s community partnership program, its management was able to offer the fire department some smoke alarms—free of charge.

On Friday, Gig Harbor firefighters went shopping at Target for smoke alarms.

“We wanted to thank Target for helping us keep our community safe,” wrote Tatom.
