Washington State Patrol Releases Photos from Saturday Morning Crash

Washington State Patrol spokesman Trooper Guy Gill tweeted the photos from the car accident on State Route 16 in Gig Harbor.

Washington State Patrol released photos from the car accident that took place on State Route 16 early Saturday morning.

The car, driven by 26-year-old Jayce L. Randall of Gig Harbor, was carrying his 9-year-old niece and nephew.

The nephew, identified by KING 5 as Donovan Best, is currently in critical condition after he was ejected when the car rolled over. Donovan was sitting in the front passenger seat. He and the driver were not wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.

The driver's niece, who was in the backseat, was uninjured in the crash because she buckled her seatbelt, said WSP spokesman Trooper Guy Gill.

Randall later admitted to Washington State Patrol officers that he had been “drinking way too much,” said Gill.

Gill tweeted the photos Sunday night and called the incident a "senseless crash".

“I honestly have no words to describe how careless and heartbreaking this is,” Gill added.

As of Sunday, Donovan's family told KING 5 that they are prepared to remove him from life support if his conditions don't improve by Sunday night.

Randall is currently at the hospital and is placed under suicide watch. He will face vehicular assault and DUI charges in Pierce County. The charges could be upgraded to vehicular homicide if the boy does not survive.

Patch will have more information as it becomes available.
