Election: Transit Measure Failing, School Bond Approval Leading

The Peninsula School District's $78 million bond shows a slight lead from Tuesday's election.

On Tuesday night, the Pierce County Auditor's Office released the first unofficial results from the Feb. 8 special election.

The latest results show - a proposal to increase taxes to maintain bus and transit service for Pierce Transit - had only 55,266 votes, or 45 percent.

The approval votes for the 's . In order to validate the vote, 60 percent of the voters must approve the measure.

The proposed merger of the Lakewood and University Place Fire Departments was passing with 82 percent of the vote.
