Fire Blotter from March 26-April 1

Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One responded to a home after a woman believed that her neighbor had released airborne penicillin into the air to harm her. Paramedics also assisted a man who came to the fire station after experiencing chest pains.

On March 26, a 52-year-old woman woke up at approximately 6:30 a.m. and was not able to speak coherently. Her husband called 911 because she had been fine the night before. When paramedics arrived the woman was able to communicate more lucidly. After an on-scene exam, they determined that the woman should be examined at the hospital.

On March 27, firefighters were dispatched to a car in the ditch. Upon arrival, they found several cars on the shoulder of Fox Island Drive and one car in a ditch. The father of the driver said his son was trying to make a U-turn when his front tire went off the roadway and slid into the ditch. No one was injured.

On March 28, dispatch received a call from a man on Vashon Island stating that he thought he could see a house fire on Sunrise Beach. Firefighters responded and tried to locate the fire. When they called backed the reporting party, he said he could no longer see the fire. Firefighters returned to the station.

On March 29, dispatch received a call from a medical alert company stating that they could hear their client in the background yelling for help. When paramedics arrived they were greeted by the homeowner who told them that she had burned food on the stove and pressed her medic alert button to get help. Paramedics found no medical concern, and the food had not caused a fire beyond the pan.

On March 30, a 49-year-old man walked into fire station 51 at 6711 Kimball Dr. and told the receptionist that he was having chest pain. The man told paramedics that he had been experiencing similar pain for about three weeks, and that it was worse today. Paramedics examined the man and monitored his heart. It was determined that he should be transported to the hospital.

On March 31, a 43-year-old woman was eating lunch and talking when she swallowed a piece of apple, which got stuck in her throat. She gagged and tried to couch it out but was unsuccessful. When paramedics arrived, they could not see the apple but agreed to take the woman to the hospital for further tests. Oxygen was provided while en route to the hospital.

On April 1, paramedics responded to a report of an allergic reaction. However, FireComm explained to them while en route that they were unable to understand the woman who called in. When they arrived, paramedics found a 52-year-old woman who believed that her neighbor did not like her and was releasing airborne penicillin into the air to harm her. Paramedics determined that she should be evaluated at the hospital.
