On the agenda tonight at the Gig Harbor City Council meeting:

Mayor Chuck Hunter will issue a proclamation for Wednesday, March 2 as "Read Across America Day." As part of the national celebration of Dr. Seuss' 107th birthday, the day will promote reading for the student in the community.

The mayor will also sign another proclamation for Pierce County READS, effective through March 5 to April 30. With the help from the Pierce County Library, the 10-week program will encourage local readers to pick up a book and participate in free events around the community.

New business:

  1. There will a second reading of the amendment to the 2011 Personnel Salary Schedule. Since learning about the incorrect percentage in the previous ordinance for the Assistant Building Official/Fire Marshall, city officials have corrected it to an increased value of 4.4 percent.The city council members are expected to adopt the ordinance at the meeting tonight.
  2. Maritime Pier Restroom/Parking Lot.

The starts at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers. Community members are encouraged to attend.
