What's Your Favorite Mode of Transport: Road, Air or Rail

Mulling over various ways to get from point A to point B.

Both of our kids live on the other side of the country. Since we have not seen them in over a year, it would be awesome to visit Georgia and Florida. In fact, they have asked us to.

Sooooo, plane, train, or automobile, that is the question. Each have their pros and cons and each have their costs to wrangle with.

When you take your car, you have your car with you. You do not have to rent a car and deal with that hassle. Yes, you are putting wear and tear on it, but driving around the Puget Sound does that as well. Yes, it is 3 days of worth of driving but you get to see the great United States.

Ok, onto flying....yes, it can be cheaper because you aren't paying for gasoline for driving, BUT you have to deal with the hassles of worrying about your luggage, the TSA, the cramped quarters if you are flying economy, and whether the plane will be safe or not. When time is of the essence, flying is a good choice, unless there are layovers!

Amtrak is interesting. You do not have to pay for the fuel, you get to see the country at least somewhat, considering the fact that you could be going 90 miles an hour at times, the only hassle is the layover at various stations. Using Amtrak would be fun, only problem is that unless you're paying for a sleeping car, you will feel like a zombie after the trip. At least in your own car, you could catch a nap or two in some rest stop.

Three different ways to travel, many different variables to think about. What we choose will be a good topic for this blog.

So, plane, train, or automobile, what is your favorite mode of travel?
