Peninsula Schools Culinary Programs Throwdown at Annual Event (PHOTOS)

From juicy pork tenderloin to Moroccan vegetables to lemon-fried king salmon, the young chefs from Peninsula, Gig Harbor and Henderson Bay High Schools showcased their skills Thursday for culinary bragging rights in the Harbor.

On Thursday, my mouth watered for one of the first times while inside a high school cafeteria.

And no, it wasn't the Sloppy Joes that did me in.

The culinary programs from Peninsula, Gig Harbor and Henderson Bay conducted their fourth-annual "Culinary Throwdown," a competition that gives the winner culinary bragging rights in the Harbor for the next year.

The students gathered inside the Peninsula High cafeteria in the afernoon, moving, flowing and barking directions as if they were in a French kitchen.

Throw down, they did, with the kind knowledge, moxy and confidence that five-star chefs would envy.

The dishes were amazing and creative. Sugar-flanked steak. Stuffed pork tenderloin with blue cheese, tomato and basil. Tandoori chicken with cucumber raita, jasmine rice and Moroccan vegetables. Lemon-fried king salmon glazed with spicy ginger butter sauce.
