Tell Us: With the Live Broadcast, How Will The Tides Do Against O'Dea?

The Northwest Root Sports will televise the game between Gig Harbor and O’Dea High School on Thursday, Aug. 30. It will be broadcast to households in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Alaska. Officials hope locals come out in droves.

The football team and its new coach Aaron Chantler will be kicking off the season next Thursday against the No. 2-ranked O’Dea High School.

And to add to the buzz, the Tides will be playing in front of a live, Northwest sports-watching audience.

The game will be televised live on ROOT Sports, according to Gig Harbor’s new athletic director Bob Werner.

Starting this season, the Northwest cable channel will be broadcasting high school football games in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Alaska every Thursday as part of its “Game of the Week” series.

ROOT personalities Brad Adam and Jason Stiles will be calling the play-by-play during the 2-hour broadcast.

Even though school doesn’t start until Sept. 4, Werner said he’s hoping for a big turnout from the community to support the Tides.

The Fighting Irish is a three-time state champ and has won 22 titles in the Seattle Metro League.

“It’s going to be a difficult game. O’Dea is an absolute football powerhouse,” Werner said. “But it’ll be a great opportunity to profile Gig Harbor High School and its student body.”

Students, parents and community members are all encouraged to attend the game.

Gig Harbor’s annual Fish Bowl will be held Friday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m.
