Gig Harbor Historic Waterfront Association Announces Chalk the Harbor Winners

Judging is complete and the winners have been chosen for the annual Chalk the Harbor competition that took place this past weekend in the Gig Harbor Historic Waterfront.  

The popular, free family event, sponsored by the Gig Harbor Historic Waterfront Association, generated a record 147 entries as chalk artists of all ages competed in seven categories. Artists were encouraged to create maritime or nautical art to fit the theme of the event.  

The following contestants will receive a Certificate of Award for winning the category they competed in:

Age 6 & Under: Magdalene and Edmund Nielsen for their artistic creation in front of Skansie Brothers Park

Ages 7 – 10: Olivia Overy, for her beautiful seagull artwork in front of the Threshold Building

Ages 11 – 13: Gabby Altounian for the maritime art featuring seahorses and more at the corner of Harborview and Rosedale

High School/College: Naphtali Ward for her gorgeous “BRAVE” artwork on the Eddon BoatYard sidewalk

Family: The Sikes Family for their family quilt artwork next to Windermere Real Estate and Fournier Insurance on Harborview

Adult: Ric Hallock for the maritime art he created featuring a sailboat in Gig Harbor, with waves and a whale on the Threshold property.

Best Maritime Theme: The Latter Day Saints Missionaries for their huge lighthouse and wave depiction on the sidewalk in front of the Threshold Building on Harborview

Special recognition also goes to the Boys & Girls Club of Gig Harbor with their amazing “Zen Doodle” creation in Eddon BoatYard Park, and to Harbor WildWatch for the maritime mural they created in the plaza in front of Devoted Kiss Café in the Finholm District. Professional Artists Diana Dahlgren, Andrea Trenbeath, Steven Stolz and Rylee Stearnes, along with student artist Kaitlyn Sanders all created some unbelievable artwork to add to the festivities.
