My last Brain Vitality Class at TCC Gig Harbor is this evening. This has been a great time of discussion and goal setting; we've talked about those in our lives who exemplify how we want to be when we're older, little things we can do to make a difference in the ways our brains age, and things we can do to enrich our live and our mental abilities now.
Whenever I think about maintaining an active, vital brain as one ages I think about a woman I knew when I worked at a retirement living community in Bellingham, WA. Dorothy Regal is an example of a woman not afraid of adventure, conflict, learning and joy. She is a published poet and an example of who I want to be when I'm older. Her poems are full of insight and wisdom about the experience of aging. I shared her book of poetry with some residents at Sound Vista (where I am the Director) and all those in the group ended up ordering their own copy of the book.
Here is a link to an award winning poem Dorothy wrote, enjoy: http://boyntonpoetrycontest.wordpress.com/2010/08/18/poem-of-the-day-6/
