Maggie L. Anderson, Neighbor

A lifetime Washington resident, I was born and raised in Spokane, moved to Ellensburg to attend CWU (Elementary and Special Education) at age 18, and moved to Gig Harbor during the summer of 2000.  After teaching for Tacoma Public Schools (both resource and general education - Elementary) for three years (and not enjoying the one-bridge commute!) I applied for a job teaching resource classes at Key Peninsula Middle School, and worked toward earning my Masters Degree in Literacy.  In 2005, I welcomed my only child, Cooper, and was fortunate enough to stay home with him for two years, subbing occasionally, and teaching "Mommy and Me" classes at Rainy Dayz Playcenter (now a preschool).  Cooper is currently enrolled in Pre-K at Rainy Dayz, and is certainly my reason to live and breathe!

When I returned to teaching in 2007, I took on the teenagers at the high school level, teaching Literacy, Sophomore English and Algebra at Gig Harbor High School.  Go Gig Harbor Tides!

After 10 years of marriage and a lengthy divorce process, I am finding it tough to make ends meet in this current economy, even with a continuing teaching contract and a Masters Degree!  

I have wonderful co-workers, and via my job as a special education teacher and APEX (AIDS Peer Education) Advisor, as well as the wonderful people involved in my son's life, I am fortunate to meet many single parents of children of all ages in and around Gig Harbor, and look forward to bringing that perspective to Patch.com!
