5 Things You Need to Know Today: Jan 12

The Steppin' Up Women's Conference approaching fast, are you registered yet?

1. Stop by the Civic Center for the Pierce Transit Open House Meeting today. You can learn more about the Proposition 1, which will be one of the things on you Feb. 8 ballot. It'll determine if our sales tax will go up or make cuts to the transit service. Representatives from the Pierce Transit will be at the meeting to answer your questions.

2. Follow your heart and register for the Steppin’ Up Women's Conference. The event features several guest speakers geared to inspire, educate and empower women. All the proceeds from the conference go toward building The Homestead at Alder Cove, a community home for local foster children. The conference will be held at Jan. 22 to 23. It'll be a great event to network with other women from the community.

3. The is meeting at , 7701 Skansie Ave. at 4 p.m. today. This free group meets the second Wednesday of every month. If you would like more information, visit its website or contact Doug Manuel at 253-858-8741. Everyone is welcome to join.

4. Show your school spirit at the girls varsity basketball game as the Tides travel to South Kitsap High School, 425 Mitchell Ave., Port Orchard. This event is open to everyone, and the teams tip off at 7 p.m. Show our girls some support and cheer them into victory.

5. Come support our local superstars at the boys varsity basketball game. Watch as the Tides crash into the South Kitsap High School Wolves at this exciting home game. The teams face off at 7 p.m. Join the fans and bring the whole family.
